The only reason to connect to SN as a music source, that I know of, is if you like to turn off the computer running SC and still listen to music services or internet radio. Otherwise, all the same things are available through SC. You might need to sign in to SN to link your accounts with services like Slacker, Last.FM, and so on. It's been so long, I don't recall for sure.
Maybe you should try a different browser or clear your cache and cookies for the login problem. Oh, and I would call SN or SC the server.
