You did get Radio NZ to play, no?
SC can handle more stream types than SN. SC has many advantages over
SN for Internet Radio usage, but it does require a computer to be
turned on.
You might just be unlucky and you keep picking stations that stream in
Real Audio that SN can't play. These won't play in SC without a
plugin.
