It does look like the SB3's Auto Update set to OFF is not working anymore. I wonder if it is this setting that is causing the black screens? If you switch servers often I'd also suggest the 7.5.4 which is very stable. If you do get the black screen just press & hold the Brightness button, this will start the update, then be patient as the SB3 needs a couple minutes to cycle/reboot.
