Sorry to resurrect this "aged" thread. I got to know about Google Music Beta a week (or so) ago, and took a look at their site and clicked on "Request an Invitation". And two days later - which I hadn't expected - I indeed got one and I am currently able to upload (slowly) my music in order to test the service. Ah, I forgot to mention, I'm in Germany. So, perhaps they do not even check for US only.
