Thanks for the quick reply :) That would make sense, from the point of view of what's happening. It seems that the FreeBSD port installs it that way though - I didn't set it like that myself. If I run imapd from the command line it gives me the following message - * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 LOGIN-REFERRALS STARTTLS LOGINDISABLED] I took this to mean that plaintext logins were disabled, but I guess it could mean exactly what is says. If I point squirrelmail at port 143 instead I simply get "ERROR There was an error contacting the mail server. Contact your administrator for help." So I guess I've jumped to the wrong conclusion. Is there anyway to change the settings that imap-wu runs with then - the man page and docs at the WU site are very thin on details. Or should I simply recompile imap-wu without SSL support (actually I guess that seems like the best idea to me).
