[SM-USERS] Preferences DB error

I recently installed version 1.2.11 on my Linux system using MySQL, Apache, 
and PHP.  After reading through the FAQs, I believe I created the 
databases/tables correctly.  However, I continue to get this message after 
any successful login:

"Preference database error (connect failed). Exiting abnormally"

Any ideas?
