He might want to hire someone who knows their way around a *nix system.

The first of the configuration settings that Tomas mentioned is in
conf.pl, which is a perl configuration script for SM that is found in SM's
config directory.  The second is a user setting found by clicking on the
Options link at the top of the SM interface... then click into the Display
Preferences menu.  The former must be enabled for the latter to have any
effect.

He also has to make sure his SMTP server supports this functionality,
which is not a SM question.
