I'm setting up SquirrelMail-1.4.3a here talking to a courier-imap server on localhost. The IMAP's been working fine for IMAP clients, and squirrel's been working fine for my handful of test users (many messages in many folders).
One of my users noticed this major problem using SquirrelMail which prevents him from reading mail. We let our users read via POP or via IMAP (both daemons access the same Maildir backend storage on a NetApp over NFS). This user has about 5000 messages in his INBOX -- he uses POP but doesn't have his client delete the mail from the server, kinda like normal IMAP usage but he of course doesn't get to manage server-side folders. When he tries to get his mail through SquirrelMail, it hangs for a minute or so, then reports the following error: ERROR : Could not complete request. Unknown response from IMAP server: 1.* NO Cannot open message 1 * NO Cannot open message 2 * NO Cannot open message 3 * NO Cannot open message 4 * NO Cannot open message 5 * NO Cannot open message 6 * NO Cannot open message 7 * NO Cannot open message 8 ... and on it goes for hundreds of message numbers. We're going live with this shortly and have quite a number of other users who will be transitioning from an old POP server and will be using this service in POP mode (instead of IMAP with folders) and may encounter the same problem when they use Squirrel for webmail. I've looked at the docs BrowseProblemsBy* and KnownBugs and Searched the problems page for "unknown response from imap" but no joy. The server doesn't have tcpdump right now and Solaris' built-in "snoop" is too stupid to sniff the loopback interface I'm using for localhost. Is there a way to log what Squirrel is saying and what IMAP is replying to help track down this problem? Any suggestions on what's causing the error? is Squirrel timing out waiting for the response from the IMAP server? Something else? Suggestions on how to fix or work-around this problem?
