If you have different users, some might read emails in iso-8859-1, other in iso-8859-2 or other charsets. squirrelmail converts emails that use different charsets into html entities. Some functions are cpu/memory intensive. These cpu/memory intensive functions are not enabled by default. If you use 1.4.x, you should not notice them unless you know that they are there. Decoding process can be optimized, if php supports recode functions. >> 5.
