You need to check the subscription file. I think uw-imap uses
~/.mailboxes or something to that affect. Do an "ls -a" in the home
directory of the user you are logging in, and check for hidden files.
Change ownership, and permissions to ensure that the user attempting
to login is the owner, and has permissions to update that file. You
might also want to check the mail logs, this could be a sign of a full
hard disk, or an over disk quota account.

Have you check under Options, Display Preferences. There is an option
to enable it on the menu line. Without that set, I don't believe it
appears anywhere.
