.mailboxlist (that's DOT mailboxlist) was not owned by the user. Where oh Where did this file come from? And why is SM attempting to use it? (is this per an RFC I missed?)

You need to check the subscription file. I think uw-imap uses ~/.mailboxes or something to that affect. Do an "ls -a" in the home directory of the user you are logging in, and check for hidden files. Change ownership, and permissions to ensure that the user attempting to login is the owner, and has permissions to update that file. I would produce a bug_report, but the option is not available, even though it is enabled in the configuration.
Have you check under Options, Display Preferences. There is an option to enable it on the menu line. Without that set, I don't believe it appears anywhere.
