        The sshd daemon should be setting that for you, as long as your ssh
*client* is requesting an X tunnel when it connects ... if you overwrite
this with your .profile or .tshrc or whatever i'm not sure you can find out
which display number to use ...

        It's probably getting overwritten by one of your login scripts, then

        Just make sure your client is requesting an X Tunnel during
initialization.  The sshd daemon should do the rest.
