That's the way it looks to me too, but my password does work at the
console.

root also can't log in over ssh, so I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem
with my user account specifically.  Just to check, I made a dummy
account and tried again, same result.

I am the sysadmin for blammo, it's freshly set up, no tweaks, no
restrictions /etc/hosts.* -- ssh is one of the very first things I do to
any system I set up, after turning off most of the inetd services.

I'm going to try your auth agent setup instructions to see if that makes
any difference.

At this point I'm inclined to suspect that whoever suggested MD5
incompatibility (I think from the RedHat list) was at least warm.  So
far no response on how to get around that, short of a re-install of the
OS without MD5.
