Hi,

Did you compile with gcc? You will have better luck if you use the native 
C compiler. I ran into this problem a few months ago. I believe that answer 
that I got was that there are compatibility problems with gcc and gethostby 
functions with IRIX. Use the MIPS C compiler, /usr/bin/cc, and it 
should work.

Also if you plan to use the tcp wrappers, with or without ssh, you will probably
run into the same problems if they are compiled with gcc. Again, use the MIPS cc 
instead.
