Thanks for emailing me! (and a fellow North Carolinean to boot!)
..I have another directory under /usr/local/source/ssh-2.1.0 -- it's
the ssh-secure-2.1.0-noncommerical directory that gets created when you
untar. It matches up with what is in the patch. In any case, I tried
backing up a dir and it didn't work.
Something that did work -- I installed ssh2 on another newer machine
with AIX 4.3.2 installed (the problem one has AIX 4.1.5), -- and it
installed with no problem! ..But - the problem is that management
wants it on the 4.1.5 machine and we can't upgrade it for a while.
I don't think it's a problem with the compiler itself either. On
the 4.1.5 machine, the ssh configuration couldn't find "X" (the xauth
file, xwindows) no matter what I did. It's not a path problem.
Everything is set up just the same on the newer 4.3.2 machine (X11 is
symbolically linked, same path, etc.), and the ssh configuration was
able to find the X libraries & headers.
Has anyone heard of a compatibility problem with ssh2 and older
versions (e.g., 4.1.5) of AIX? X11 is still installed on all of our
AIX boxes, even though we don't use xwindows.
