./configure --host=ix86-unknown-sysv4
make

will build ssh 2.0.13 on OpenServer 5.0.5.

However, I found problems using it - it wouldn't connect or would
connect and then immediately disconnect.

I haven't tried the 2.1.whatever builds yet.

I'm not sure if there is a more current gcc for OSR505 although I may be
wrong. I have a beta of OpenServer 5.0.6 which I play with from time to
time but the gcc on that is the same as that for OSR505.

I have access to gcc 2.95.2 which has been built in-house. I'll maybe
take a look at building SSH with that, if I have time. I can't promise
anything though.

Any chance it is your build environment that is giving problems and not
necessarily the compiler itself?

Finally, please note that I am a Tarantella bod, not a Server bod, so I
cannot always help with or explain away the behaviour of the SCO OSs. My
main use of SSH is making sure that Tarantella can use it as a
transport.
