Make sure that you can have the machines at least ping each other. Then
try to telnet to port 22 from the Windows98 machine and you should see
something like this:

$ telnet example.com 22
Trying example.com...
Connected to example.com.
Escape character is '^]'
SSH-1.99-2.1.0 F-Secure Secure Shell
