Ah, but that wasn't what was said when I jumped in.

However note that from a protocol point of view there's still some
reason to believe that the client is more trustworthy if it uses a
privileged port -- for exactly the same reason that the client can
better trust a server listening on a privileged port.

What gets in the way of this being useful is just the way the current
implementation works.
