Setting tty modes failed: Invalid argument

hi,

  i'm hoping someone can help me understand this message which is
appearing in /var/log/messages (on redhat 7) everytime i connect.  i
think it may be a reflection of the problem that i am having using X11
through ssh.  My display variable is not being set.  

  sshd: Setting tty modes failed: Invalid argument

i appreciate any help.
