At present, I am using the directional headlights on the locomotives to
indicate valve gear position from a distance. Works OK once you get used to
it.
Fine control while switching of course is sometimes an issue as Bob states.
I have found the if the fire is turned down a bit to lower the boiler
pressure control is improved.
