Salty, I have always blackened brass on my engines, so this is second-hand, but I understand that "tooth" is critical. Someone suggested sand-blasting -- this cleans the brass (also very important) and gives it "tooth" (surface texture). Etching primer also works well, I'm told, even on copper. -vance-
