I would call the fellow back and ask if he'd be willing to try casting from a styrene pattern. He does wax, why not plastic? You invest it, burn it out and cast it just like any other meltable pattern.
But if, after 40 years, he hasn't heard of it, he may not be willing to give something new a try, the old dog.
