Not sure. man nsswitch.conf is part of glibc and so is the code for
the maps handled by name-service-switch (group, passwd, netgroups, ...)

Some third party components such as sudo, automounter and I'm sure there
are others choose to configure where they fetch data from in nsswitch.conf
even though there are not handled by glibc at all. They simply share the
same configuration file.
