I would rather have a "deprecated/" folder or let just delete them from trunk.
I am +1 for "contrib" as this indicates that this folder contains
components that were once contributed to the project but are not
actively maintained by the community. I think this convention is also
used by Felix. Maybe it motivates people to have look at those
components and start to maintain them to move them back into the main
trunk. If you call something "deprecated", it indicates that this is
not planned to ever come back into the main trunk.
