The sender doesn't need to know, but the receiving client obviously already does and can display as it deems appropriate. Appropriate could mean reducing the colours to make them 'nicer' or simply ignore colouring altogether. If a sender wants to send crazy multi-coloured messages, that is their choice - and the receiver is free not to display it as such. You're not forced to display colours in your client, but why force others not to be able?
