Title: Message Moderation
Abstract:
This specification defines a method for groupchat moderators to
moderate messages.

URL: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0425.html

This Last Call begins today and shall end at the close of business on
2022-01-04.

Please consider the following questions during this Last Call and send
your feedback to the standards@xmpp.org discussion list:

1. Is this specification needed to fill gaps in the XMPP protocol
stack or to clarify an existing protocol?

Abuse and spam management is an important area to improve.

2. Does the specification solve the problem stated in the introduction
and requirements?

There's no requirements section. The introduction section mentions
"correcting a message on another user's behalf" but is somewhat light on
details on that use case.

Retraction of messages by moderator works.

3. Do you plan to implement this specification in your code? If not,
why not?

It was implemented by Zash in https://modules.prosody.im/mod_muc_moderation

I also added support for batch-moderation in the command line tool 'clix'.

4. Do you have any security concerns related to this specification?

With great power comes great responsibility.

If changing messages is allowed then some/all of
https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0308.html#security applies as well.

5. Is the specification accurate and clearly written?

As mentioned under 2 it is light on details about all use cases
mentioned.

The examples are certainly clear enough to implement the retraction use
case.

Your feedback is appreciated!

One question that has arisen though: it does not define how to "undo" a
moderation action.

Especially tricky if the implementation choses to replace the original
in storage with a tombstone.
