Friends -- I have a 3180 MT (OS 8.6, NewerTech 300mhz, 128 MB RAM)
and am trying to add an internal SCSI Zip drive with somewhat limited
success. Physically, the installation went fine; the drive is
situated in the 3 1/2" bay under the floppy. It is getting power from
the Zip power plug included inside, and it is connected to the
internal SCSI chain (the Motorola SCSI reset kit is installed).

Apple System Profiler recognizes the existence of the Zip drive, but
the drive will not mount a disk. (The light blinks a few times when
the disk is inserted, but nothing ever happens afterward). I should
mention that I did not deviate from the "default" SCSI ID of #5 on
the Zip. ASP reports it as being #0; could this be the fly in the
ointment?

The only other internal SCSI device attached is a Matsushita Apple
ROM CD reader (SCSI ID #3). The two devices have been assigned
different ID numbers. It makes no difference if the CD-ROM is
connected or not. There are no external SCSI devices attached.

Does the Zip drive need to be terminated? Currently, it is not. I
thought the Motorola reset kit took care of that.

Further -- I downloaded the version of Iomega Tools from Iomega.com
said to be compatible with OS 8.6 when I discovered that the Iomega
Tools in my Apple Extras folder would not run. The downloaded version
will not run either, telling me that "Tools will not run without
driver version 5.01 or higher installed." However, version 6.0.8 is,
indeed, installed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Andy
