For a 4000 MT, G3, 160 MB RAM, ATI Rage Card.
I just ordered an external case from Computer Geeks to put my currently
internal 10GB SCSI FULL height HD. Although it does fit in the MT case it
just takes up a lot of room and inhibits cooling air flow. I am thinking of
getting a newer faster IDE HD. I don't know if its worth the trouble to try
to save and use the current HDs, the original 2.6 GB and a later 6.5 GB. I
could just get one big (30+GB), fast (7200RPM) IDE HD and maybe partition it
and I still would have my soon to be external SCSI HD (on a SIIG PCI SCSI
card, about 10 MBS when it runs right) or I can get a PROMAX PCI IDE card
(probably the 33 bus ones as they are cheap enough) and keep the older two
HDs. I would like an IDE slot to get back to CDs/CDRWs, currently I am
running a
SCSI CD. I do not absolutely require speed (although it would be nice) as I
am not doing AV or anything exciting. But I want to keep things as
simple and reliable as possible, although my friends do refer to my computer
as a "Frankenstein Mac" . I understand there were some problems with
the PCI IDE cards that they would not run CDs and maybe they would not boot,
or play some files.
So what do the wise SM folks think: 1 big fast IDE HD and an external SCSI HD
and add an IDE CDRW and toss the other 2 HDs or add
a PROMAX card and keep the earlier HDs?
