Herm just loves to argue! And he thinks it's OK to make personal attacks. So
if Herm ever does this to you, don't take it personally. Nonetheless, this
is good info for newbies to read:

When the first Vimage accelerator cards came out several years ago, they
cost $500-1000. They had small back side caches and they were not up to
today's speeds. Back then, they were relatively slow and they received poor
reviews from MacWorld, MacUser and MacWeek.

With my 4200 (SM 4200 MT/128 MB RAM/Newer L2 G3-300-200-1Meg/OS 9.1), I see
a 50-100% speed boost with many (but not all) of my applications. Which is
the same as saying (for those who may have math/grammar problems) I am
running 150% to 200% as fast than with out my accelerator card. Owners of
the slower StarMaxen will, indeed, see the 800% from some applications. This
was confirmed with a series of real world KenBenchTests and posted years
ago, at the original StarMax talk list. I still have them (for anyone but
Herm) who wants to see them.

Now how about thoughts on the original post: is a L2 cache card (not an
accelerator) worth buying TODAY?
