Dan,

Thank you. I do understand. Ordinarily, I would have a semi-automatic response,
but I can't find the button in the clutter on my desk.

The emergency battery I made is 4.5 volts and the batteries are hooked up in series
( + to -, ene-to-end. ) Stretching them all out in a row would be a clumsy unit
and use up the slack in the connector wires, so I stacked them one on top of two
to get a more compact package and give me the longest length of the original
wires.

Stepping back to the 6 Starmaxs of Kim's, failed or missing batteries are the most
reasonable explanation for a common problem of no startup. amongst 6 different
machines If all the wires were originally disconnected from the motherboard, all
the batteries would be eventually discharged. Equally possible, all the batteries
could have been removed. There are no intuitive slues anywhere in the Starmax as
to the existence of a battery. There are no battery holders, only a set of
terminals that could be anything to the uninformed. If I just encountered my first
machine, I wouldn'f know what the battery was or where it was connected.

Kim doesn't mention the batteries anywhere in her posts, I assume they were
there, but then again, a problem with the 6 could give her the common problem of no
startup or video.

Bob W.

PS Using a Radio Shack 3 battery holder solves all the problems; they are already
connected in series giving 4.5 volts and the connection is easy using the original
wiring termination. Cost: a buck and 3 batteries.
