I installed a Plextor PX-W1610TA CD RW, which has 16/10/40 performance,
as a direct replacement for the original CD ROM. This has the standard
ATAPI interface. After due research, I found on the Roxio sight that I
needed Toast 5 Titanium Mac software. This I purchased and installed
(version 5.0). I could read the "Manual" disk but not play music CD's. I
successfully copied data from a Zip disk onto a CD R (using Mac and PC
Hybrid format). Although in Sesssion Mode, it would not let me record
another file. I could initially read this CD R, but now it says the disk
is incompatible with my computer. I tried to burn a file and the device
started and then stopped dead. I could only escape with Force Quit. Now
the device will not even load the CD icon onto the desktop. My Starmax
4160 has only been upgraded with a replacement 20.4 Gb hard drive, which
unfortunately I failed to initialise in HFS+ format. The Apple System
Profiler shows that both the hard drive and the Plextor have ID=0. Where
has a simple lad gone wrong?
