Sounds like what happened to me.  I had to ZAP the PRAM as well as holding down the 
CUDO.  By the
way, you have to hold the CUDO down for what seems to be too long (4-5 secs)

For the PRAM,
    hold command-option-p-r down until you hear two chimes (not the initial chime).
