Damn! I had hoped for a reprieve. So, I did have the two as masters, 1 per slot
and probably plugged an external CD into the SCSI port. But the original IDE
cable has 3 connectors, one for the motherboard and 2 for(?). Your advice is
correct; the USB and IDE cards are a good idea for expansions. I'll probably
plug in a CDRW SCSI to replace the old IDE beast.

BTW, the battery and a corrupted PRAM are probably the basic cause for most of
the video startup complaints. It's a pretty rugged machine otherwise. As I said,
leave the SM plugged into the wall overnight when putting in a new battery and
try it the next day. Never look a magic horse in the mouth.
