Well Frank, I think I may have found a solution last night. I was
running Norton's Utilities after a crash and noticed it kept bringing up a
strange file called Macstercache.dat, which I could only assume was a left
over file from my Napster beta called Macster. However, a conventional
search couldn't produce the file, so I assumed it was invisible. Running
another search for invisible files turned up a series of similarly name files
which I soon deleted. Thinking back, my random crashing problem could have
started around the time I had Macster, and since I deleted the files I
haven't had any more problems (although to be fair I've only used it a few
hours since then). I'll keep you updated in case the crashes return.

Question to the group: Can invisible files be responsible for erratic
behavior and crashes on a mac?

Regards,
Scott
