As I understand it, some have had a problem with the monitor staying black at
startup. Hopefully, I have that right. This is what I did and do. My 3240
w/Joe Card, 128 meg, Formac SCSI card, IxMicro video card, and an xlr8 USB
card started doing this about 6 mo ago at age 3. I replaced the battery and
if anything, the problem got worse. Tried all sorts of things but the only
thing that worked, it seemed, was to unplug the battery and leave it alone
for at least 30 min -- did that many times. Finally, I noticed that when the
desktop was rebuilt, the black screen was less frequent. So now, I rebuild
the desktop quite often (every 6 startups or so) and haven't had a problem
for about 2 weeks. I use 9.1, 8.6, and 8.5.1, for whatever that's worth.
Hope this helps. Dale
