Well I normally wouldn't have sent this message, as I think it is an
extension conflict, but.......after all of the PRAM/battery boojie
woojie over the last few days I thought I'd see if any one else has had
this situation.
I have two macs (Starmax [EMAIL PROTECTED] w/NewTech G3 card/160Mb/Asante
10/100 card and an [EMAIL PROTECTED] w/internal 10/100) networked via a
10/100BaseT hub using Appletalk. Network is operating at 100BaseT.
Here's the problem: If there is a freeze which necessitates rebooting
the StarMax, it will lockup just after it begins loading the various
extensions. The extension icon which is on-screen is for SpeedDoubler
(updated to last rev), but I'm not sure what is actually happening
...haven't used Conflict Catcher. If it is rebooted again it will again
freeze....if it is rebooted again it will again freeze....unless I let
it sit for a few minutes.....then it will reboot and come up normally.
If extensions are disabled it will come to life normally on the first
reboot.
My suspicions have been that it is an extension conflict with Appletalk
(ie runs with extensions disabled).....but then why the necessity for a
"cooling off" period prior to rebooting? G3 card is not running
excessively warm (according to Speedometer control panel), and this can
happen whether the machine has been up and running for a while before
the first freeze, or whether it has been running all day and then hit
the same freeze...so not a heat issue.
However, after reading of the battery issues and startup weirdness I
wondered whether it's a battery symptom and it could be new battery
time. I'll be cracking the cases soon to install an Orangemicro
USB/Firewire card and perhaps a second hard drive so I'll check the
battery then. In the meantime, has anyone else had symptoms like these
with their systems?
