Our network has 3 PCs and 1 SM. Dave works somewhat, but I find it's
instructions don't always produce the desired results. My regular machine, a
PC running Win98 is accessible across the network. My husband's PC running
Win 98 is accessible only to my regular machine. The other PC, running XP
can see his machine as can the SM but he is not accessible. I can't figure
out why this is so. The only machines that can see each other and interact
freely are the SM and my second (experimental) machine running trial XP. I
don't have clue why. These two machines are not vital to me, but rather are
mostly for the fun of playing computer. The XP machine also has an AMD
processor, with a VIA chipset which gave me fits until I got all the bios
flashes. I hate to admit that XP is *wonderful*. I really want to hate it
but it is pretty, capable, sturdy, and can communicate with the SM without
any configuration.
I think DAVE is pretty good software, but it is not completely trouble free.
I don't really think it plays nice with Win 98. However I'm still working on
it. I am trying to learn my way around these systems for my own
satisfaction--grannies don't have financial agendas, but sometimes we do
have ridiculous curiosity.
E-mailme privately if you want to be kept up-to-date on my
adventures/frustrations/satisfactions.
