I suggest buy some OS cds. 8.0, 8.5 (free update to 8.6), 9.0 (free update
to 9.0.4), 9.1 download, but better to have cd.
Erase your disk and start over with 8.0
Upgade HD driver as you progess.
If your cd drive is a 3rd party drive, then after 8.0 is running you can
extract the cdrom driver ver. 5.3.1 from your 7.6 cd using Tome Viewer.
Or, if 5.3.1 is in your extension folder now, you could save it to floppy or
Zip. (disable any other cdrom drivers to avoid conflict).
Here's another thing to try, might save you all that trouble.
Get, somehow, Drive Setup and see if it will update the driver on your 9.1
HD. I don't think you should use the Drive Setup that's on your 7.6 cd.
Drive Setup will not let you initialize the boot disk, but it might let you
update the driver.
I have version 2.0.3 Drive Setup from my 9.1 cd.
Good luck.
