Dear Erudite StarMaxen: I want to thank all the responses I've had to my letter requesting input about my plans for doing several additions to my 4200DT - upgrade steps with one case opening - including installing a NewrTech G3-L2 board, a Maxtor 30GB IDE HD and a SIIG 133/100 PRO PCI controller board for it. All the responses, including some directly to me, were extremely thoughtful and are helping me upgrade my plans accordingly. Most seemed to think I was on the right track - I hope we're all correct.

Dan, it is my understanding there is a 3rd bay that I can use for the new IDE HD #2 while keeping my current IDE HD and IDE CDRW as long as HD #2 is connected thru the PCI controller card I'm installing. > > Also there have been a couple of B-tree errors I've had to live with for a > > couple of years that couldn't be corrected - I assume I'll now be able to get > > rid of these. > > You don't run Norton then? It'd be interesting if that was something that > Norton couldn't fix. I sure do. I ran on older version of Norton Disk Doctor then updated it to current shortly after this problem first started. For a long time I would get messages that it couldn't be fixed. Then I tried TechTool Pro2 with similar results. After that, Disk Doctor said it could repair the problem but didn't. Hope you find this interesting - I found it disappointing. Comment only - NOT a thread: For a long time I felt Norton Utilities didn't do squat and my money was just going down the drain. But, one time an ISP Tech Rep, while trying to help me get connected, told to delete all my Netscape User Profiles and start over. I hit delete. While doing that, I asked, "Won't that destroy all my bookmarks, addresses and emails?" The tech rep screeched, STOP! She had forgotten I wasn't a new install. I'd wiped out all of those things. "Sorry" she said and hung up. It took me a few hours to recover and realize I had Norton and with very little effort was able to recover everything except the last 6 months of email. I had hundreds of addresses, hundreds of book marks and 3 years of emails that would have devastated me if I'd lost them (and I didn't have my CDRW yet and virtually had no backups.) If I'd moved faster, I wouldn't have lost anything. Since then I wouldn't be without Norton and praise what they can do and try to overlook what they don't do. It took only one experience like that to feel I've gotten full value for my money.
