Hi Allan Welcome to the list; what took you so long? (lol) I would say get your basic Maxtor IDE drive. If you are getting a burner it sounds like you might be collecting MP3s? Or large amounts of something so a 10 GB is a little small, may as well get at least 40 GB while you're at it. You should be able to find something for just under a hundred bucks. There has been an effort under way for a short time now to compile a list of bootable drives but I agree with Craig, keep your CD-ROM to boot from (provided it works) and get a Toast compatible drive. So then the problem becomes having only two IDE connections. You could get a card for more connections, or get a USB card but a USB drive is really slow. We haven't talked much here about FireWire, what does a StarMax owner know about new technology? ;-) I would get this: http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=4480&Item=OWCLUCT5X Then get an external FW CD-RW. I usually go to OWC for my Max solutions, they have good prices. They have RAM as well if you haven't maxed out at 160 MB. I see they also have IDE Maxtor and Western Digital drives, as I said, under a $100. Shop around for a burner, prices have come down and you should be able to find something for under $200. It should come with Toast 5 but the "lite" version. Good luck and let us know how it goes or of any problems. George
