HFS+ is a format on the HD, it has nothing to do with the computer itself. It's basically how the files are arranged on the disk. Only 8.1 and later can read HFS+, so you'll want to make sure any other computer that will be reading the drive is running at least Mac OS 8.1. You'll probably want to boot off the 9.1 CD, reformat the drive there, then do an install.
