Thanks for your reply. I was focusing on the "supported device" software
file because that is exactly what made a Yamaha work in a Umax S900 I
refurbished for a local shop recently.

However, you are probably right about the IDE bus conflict. I tried setting
the Memorex CRW-1622 as Master, Slave, Cable Select, and all three hung the
boot process. Taking the jumper off altogether had the same result. The boot
process hangs until I disconnect the IDE cable.

So, either I need the system to know what it's dealing with in the Memorex,
or my CRW-1622 is incompatible for some reason even though FWB/CDT and
Adaptec say it's supported. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks in advance,
