Both 8.6 and 9.1 are very stable on the SM. I know a few people have *inx variants installed on the machines. As for the CPU upgrade, I believe Sonnet still sells a G3/L2 card for the computers. OS X is currently not possible. It has unique RAM among Apples, you need to look for RAM sold for PM 4400 and/or StarMax computers. It has 3 DIMM slots with 1 (marked Single Bank) support 32MB and the other 2 supporting 64MB for a total of 160MB. Access to internals compares is Ok, better than some but nothing compares to an 86/9600 or later Mac.
