Anybody using a flat panel monitor with their Starmax? I would like one mostly beacuse of space but I am not sure if that is one item better left to newer AGP Macs. I have plenty of VRAM with my 16 MB ATI Rage Orien card but it has the traditional monitor connector. Mac flat panel monitors have a special connector and some other models have a DVI connector, does that matter? (Are ther loss free connectionconverters?) So the question is what flat panel, what card is required and will any SM arrangement get the full use of a new monitor?
There are two types of connections for LCD monitors, traditional analog and digital. Analog connections use the 15 pin VGA connector on your ATI Rage Orion and built into the MB of the SM. To connect an LCD to your current SM, you can purchase any LCD with an analog (VGA) connector and it should be plug and play. The DVI connector (Digital Video Interface) is an all digital connection that is on newer video cards (The ATI Radeon 7000 for Mac has one) and used by some LCD monitors. The Apple LCD's use an ADC (Apple Display Connector) that is a DVI connector that has power and USB added to it so that only the single cable is needed to run to the display. This connector is directly supported by the current Macs, but any Mac that can support a DVI video card and USB can be used with them using an DVI to ADC adapter (one is made by Apple and one or two other companies).
