I think you've got the information, but here are just a few more boring details. I have my StarMax running 9.1 and a few other machines on my router, two of which are running OS X.
From the StarMax' Apple menu, use "Network Browser" to mount disks or partitions of the OSX machine. That is if you don't have a CD burner on the Powerbook. Follow Michael Martin's plan if your spouse's PB has a burner. It's just easier. With the Network browser, "Connect to Server". You will need to figure out the IP number of the PB. You can find that in the Network section of OS X's System Preferences. Under the TCP/IP tab is the local IP address. My internal IP address happens to be 192.168.0.102. Yours might be similarly assigned from the router. You need to supply this address in the format afp://123.456.789.100.
From there you will need to supply your wife's (or root's) login name and password.
I would imagine that your backup software will be able to see the mounted disk and you can follow your backup plan.
You _could_ connect them directly, but there's no advantage to that. Everybody else had good advice. Keep us posted as to how you decide to proceed.
I've got the connections, I just need to follow a plan. B^) Paul

Second question, is there a way to back up my wife's Powerbook running OS10 to the SM? Maybe just data files?
