> The usb card has yet to work no matter which slot I put it in.

From the subject, I thought this post was going to be about a Voodoo
video card, which I have in my Starmax and Beige G3. Anyway, sounds like you
just have a bad card or one that just isn't compatible w/ the Mac OS. You
shouldn't need special drivers, you're correct. My USB card worked fine w/
OS 8.6 and works fine w/ 9.1 in my Starmax. You might want to go under the
Extensions Manager control panel and make sure the USB extensions are turned
on (marked w/ an X) if you haven't done that.
If possible, have a friend w/ a computer w/ PCI slots try the USB card
in their computer.
They're not very expensive- maybe you should just get another one. You
might want to try ordering from OtherWorld Computing, whose web site lets
you enter the computer you have, then shows you what compatible hardware
they have for it. http://eshop.macsales.com I have a SIIG (www.siig.com ,
probably) USB card in the Beige G3. I would look in the Starmax to see what
brand is in it but it's a much bigger pain to open and close up- Takes like
30 sec on the Beige- I can peek at the PCI cards w/o even turning it off.
If you're going to buy another PCI card, and your digital camera has a
firewire port and cable, that would give you faster file transfers than USB,
so you might want get one of those instead (or a combo card which has both
if you also want the USB for a printer or something). I believe it does but
can't remember for sure if OS 8.6 has firewire extensions though; I have
been using 9.1 in mine for a year or two.

> The TT is in the slot farthest from the motherboard.
Some video cards will only work in the 1st and 2nd slots in these Tanzania
motherboards. Interesting that yours works well in the farthest (5th). If
you have any trouble w/ it, try moving it to 1st or 2nd slot.
