Not positive but I think firewire DOES work with OS 9.1
The firewire card I put in my Beige G3 Mac (haven't tried it in the
 Starmax) is made by Solectron- think I got it on eBay. About $15
is right. Make sure you attach a power cable to it- you may need a
y-splitter for that - try to buy one with a y-splitter if possible,
or you can probably get at your favorite local computer parts place.
    I have 9.2.2 on the Beige but haven't tried to put it on the
Starmax.
