My OS9.1 has 2 Firewire extensions (Firewire Enabler and Firewire Support -
both are v. 2.7).

More importantly, are you running OS X on your SM5500? ......... last I
heard you were still on 9.1.  Did I miss something?

I'm running OS X on my PM 9600. My SM 5500 is still at OS 9.1 and is my audio editing/gaming machine. Sorry about the confusion. Since you have the 2.7 extensions already, a PCI Firewire card should work with no problems. Make sure it is listed as Macintosh compatible.
