Mine does this at times too-& I don't have high speed network. I think it's
generally due to the processor not being able to keep up with the demands on
it. Max out the Ram if you havent, and quit any apps that you don't need to
keep running to free up ram and this con help. A original 68040 powermac
processor is more likely to do this more often than one upgraded to a G3, I
think. I prefer iTunes to any other software I've used for playing music.
