Hello and hears some news for you. You do not need to install 9.o before you install 9.1
When i added to my equipment, a G4-466, it came with 9.1. I decided to install it on my 3000/200, 3ea 3000/240's, 2ea G-3 266 B&W and did not have a problem at all. I have a graphics business and I use Pagemaker, Photoshop and other graphics programs and will not be going to OS-X until they make drivers to run my Printers and Scanners, etc. You should back up all your data and do a complete reinstall to make it work.
